Top 7 Tools to Create Quote Graphics

I’ve been doing some research in preparation for the Social Media Success Summit in October. This is the first year I’m attending the online event and I’m pretty pumped up about it. I noticed that a lot of the topics being covered this year revolve around visual content marketing on sites like Pinterest, Instagram and even Slideshare.

These are platforms I have mostly neglected, so reading up on the stats behind some of them was truly a bit of a shock. I had no idea that this trend was quite as huge as it apparently is.

I recently held a webinar for my subscribers where I showed them a cool technique for branding and promoting their Kindle books. I call it viral quote promotion and I’ve blogged about it here before. I also wrote a piece on how it works for SellBox.com, which I encourage you to read.

You can also watch the webinar replay by clicking here.

In the webinar, I talked about how I bought some cheap stock photos and used GIMP to add some of my quotes to the images. However, that’s kind of involved and certainly time consuming, especially if you want to create quote graphics in any sort of volume.

So I began exploring the available tools for creating quote graphics and discovered several sites that make the process incredibly quick and easy without sacrificing the quality of the end result. I also found many that were lackluster and which didn’t really impress me much.

After experimenting with all the sites I could find that make it easy to create quote graphics, I have put together this list of my top seven picks and included an example of a quote graphic I made using each one.

Chisel

Of all the tools I played with, Chisel is right at the top of my list.

Quotes Cover

I also really loved the results I got using QuotesCover.

Pic Font

Next in line was PicFont.

Live Luv Create

In fourth place was LiveLuvCreate…BUT — while I created an account to test it out and loved the results, I have not been able to log back into my account since. They have some sort of redirect loop and it just reloads the homepage when I attempt to login. So…I can’t access my account there and when I tried to make a new one, the same thing happened. They are having some sort of issue, I emailed them to let them know and will update this post if they respond.

PixTeller

PixTeller was the last one in this list that really impressed me.

 Why I Liked These Most

There are two main reasons why these were my favorite tools for creating quote graphics. The first is that they all allow you to upload your own custom background image. This is important. Oh, and while we’re on the subject of background images…I might as well reveal my secret sources for kickass copyright-free images as well.

The images used in the examples above were obtained at Splitshire, Pixabay and Skitterphoto.

The other big reason I liked these tools most was that they either add no branding to the images you create, or it is very tasteful and isn’t glaringly obvious at first glance.

For example, Pixteller and LiveLuvCreate both add their URL to the bottom of your image (as seen in above examples) but it is very small and doesn’t take away from the message or the visuals in my opinion.

Other Tools for Creating Quote Graphics

There are quite a few other sites that let you do the same thing as those listed above. I consider the following tools more “cookie cutter” in nature and don’t like the quality as much.

Mainly what I dislike is that they have a limited number of templates or styles you can apply to your quote, which gives them all a generic look that will become saturated as more people use them to create images. They are also generally much tackier about slapping their branding on the images you create, which I dislike as well.

On the plus side, these tools do allow you to create more quote graphics in less time. You can bust out a dozen very quickly, so they have that advantage.

PinWords

I like this site okay, it almost made it into the first section but something about it feels a little inferior. Perhaps the templated text styles they offer makes it seem to me like they would come out looking too similar to everything else made using this particular tool.

Quozio

This site is okay but has a limited number of styles for your quotes, which is a turn off for me.

Recite

Similar to the previous tool, this one only has a set number of styles for your quote and doesn’t support uploading your own background.

Quote4Fun

This one is a little too basic. They basically just turn text into images of text with colored backgrounds and that sort of thing.
